Harkstead Village Recorder - Sarah Donnison
I am the village recorder for Harkstead, part of a voluntary Suffolk-wide scheme run by the Suffolk Local History Council to ensure that events and changes happening now in our villages are recorded for historians of the future. Most parishes on the Peninsula have one, there are still a few gaps (Erwarton, Shotley and Chelmodiston as far as I am aware - so please get in touch if you know of someone who may wish to do this...)
In February 2022, I took over this role from Evie Rayson who had held this post for an incredibly long time. Every year I aim to write a report on events and activities in the village which is kept by the Suffolk Record Office. I plan to start collecting and keeping an archive of material such as photos, programmes, order of services, etc, etc. So, please don’t throw anything away you think might fall into this category as I’ll willingly hold on to it, keep it safe and in time it will go with everything else in my archive to the Suffolk Record Office for prosperity, unless another custodian in the village comes forward.
If you don’t want to part with whatever it is, then perhaps I could have a photo copy, a link to, or a scan of it!
